We believe that open source is essential for software innovation.

Almost everyone uses open source software. You often find open source on the internet, probably without even realizing it. There's a good chance that your company even depends on it.

But what exactly is open source software and what advantages and disadvantages are associated with it?

With open-source software, the source code is freely available. This makes it possible for other developers to easily add functionalities, fix errors, but also assess the quality of the software.

Just like for any software company, open source is also important to us. It helps us gain knowledge from other developers and keeps development costs under control.

Open-source software is maintained by communities and the idea is that users of the software contribute to the community. This can be done in many ways, as a developer but also as a user in the form of updating documentation, translations or publications about the solution. Financial sponsorship is also possible. This is often cheaper than hiring developers yourself or purchasing commercial software.

Cesbit gives back to the open source community by offering a number of its own developments as open source. Our two main contributions are SiriDB and ThingsDB, but aiowmi and our leri parser are also widely used solutions in the community.

In this way we contribute to global knowledge sharing and innovation.
